Château Margaux 1952
The Cuvée
Château Margaux, classified Premier Grand Cru in 1855, is one of Bordeaux's most prestigious wine estates. The 1952 vintage is a blend dominated by Cabernet Sauvignon, complemented by Merlot, Cabernet Franc and a touch of Petit Verdot. This wine embodies the elegance and complexity characteristic of the estate, reflecting exceptional expertise and a unique terroir.
The 1952 vintage
Climatic conditions in 1952 were contrasting, with a hot summer followed by a cool, rainy September, delaying optimal ripening of the grapes. Despite these challenges, Château Margaux 1952 has a garnet-red color with tiled highlights, a sign of its evolution. The nose offers subtle aromas of ripe black fruit, violets, leather and undergrowth. On the palate, the attack is silky, evolving to mellow tannins and good length, with notes of truffle and tobacco on the finish. This well-preserved wine testifies to the remarkable ageing capacity of Margaux's grands crus.
The estate
Situated on the left bank of the Gironde, Château Margaux extends over some 78 hectares dedicated to viticulture. Since 1977, under the management of the Mentzelopoulos family, the estate has undergone a renaissance, combining tradition and innovation to produce wines of exceptional quality. The vineyard benefits from a deep gravelly terroir, offering optimal drainage and ideal exposure, contributing to the complexity and elegance of the wines produced.
